Gatekeeper Foundation develops communication strategies to assure proper media coverage of seldom-reported issues of concern. The foundation has participated with numerous local and national English and Spanish language media outlets to raise awareness about civil and human rights abuses primarily affecting marginalized communities. To date we have produced four documentary films and one narrative film that have been viewed by several hundred thousand people. We have also presented immigration panels and symposiums to over two hundred organizations, colleges and high schools. Amnesty International, the ACLU, the Anti-Defamation League, Human Rights Watch, The National Immigration Forum, The Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice, The University of Notre Dame, Columbia University, Stanford University, Harvard Univiersity and numerous other organizations, colleges, universities and foundations have recognized, funded and honored the work of the Gatekeeper Foundation. PAST MEDIA ADVOCACY CAMPAIGNS Scalabrini Missionaries – A full-length documentary film focusing on the work of the Scalabrinian Missionaries and the need to expand their humanitarian efforts and migrant advocacy worldwide. Justice for Immigrants – A joint effort with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops to create a social justice campaign for immigrants. New Sanctuary Movement – A national movement and campaign advocating for the reunification of families separated by punitive and inhumane immigration laws. Migrant Day Laborers – A full-length documentary film and media outreach campaign to improve conditions for hundreds of homeless migrant laborers in San Diego County. Student Discrimination Arizona – A media outreach campaign to empower Latino and immigrant students to end discrimination in the Maricopa County school district. Malawi School Project – A short documentary film and campaign to build schools in Malawi, Africa. CURRENT MEDIA ADVOCACY CAMPAIGNS Border Patrol Brutality – A nationwide media advocacy campaign to raise awareness and affect change concerning brutality and excessive force within the ranks of Customs and Border Protection officials. National media stories are pending. Migrant Death – An ongoing nationwide media advocacy campaign to stem the migrant death toll along the U.S. Mexico Border. To date The Gatekeeper Foundation has produced several national media projects for Current TV, 60 Minutes, The Today Show, Univision and Dan Rather Reports as well as a full-length documentary film entitled, The 800 Mile Wall. |
